I’m a Survivor! Here’s My Story on the “Advancing With Amy Podcast”
I recently had the pleasure of appearing on my dear friend Amy Taylor’s podcast, Advancing With Amy, to share the story of my suicide attempt.
It’s perfect timing because in a few weeks it will be the 28th anniversary of my attempt, and I’m grateful every day to be alive to share my gifts with the world.
I’ve suffered from lifelong clinical depression, and it noticeably increases every spring. You might think that the winter months with the common seasonal affective disorder would be worse, but that’s not the case.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the National Center for Health Statistics report that early springtime (April and May) have that highest su*cide rates in the United States.
“But Sage, you’re always so upbeat and positive!”
I’ve found that happy people are often depressed and struggling. Those things can coexist, and we’ve all heard stories of celebrities who took their own lives after seemingly “having it all.”
If you’re hurting right now, I want you to know that you’re not alone.
This podcast episode discusses abuse, self-harm, sexuality, bullying, gatekeeping, and more.
