“That Won’t Work for Me.” Digital Course Creator Edition

Today, we’re continuing my new series “That Won’t Work for Me” focusing on different types of business owners and how my new program Goodbye 9-to-5 can help them earn a full-time income.

Next up, digital course creators!

You know we couldn’t make it through this series without sharing my story.

Back in 2014, I was several years into my business and was known as a successful digital course creator.

Digital programs are a great way to teach thousands of people all around the world, but those courses can never get too specific because they have to appeal to a wide array of people in various situations.

My self-paced programs Startup In 60 and Life Editing for Beginners were selling well, but I had this nagging feeling my clients were craving something more.

I put together my first mastermind group, Life Editor Academy, and offered all the bells and whistles they’d been asking for with personalized coaching plus accountability from likeminded women. At the time, it was my most expensive offering.

I drafted a launch email to a small devoted list, took a deep breath, and clicked “Send.” For the next few hours, my payment processor informed me that another sale had rolled in. And another. And another.

By the end of the day, I filled all the spots and secured $50,000 of income by sending one email.

Of course, I put in hours of behind-the-scenes work including nurturing my list and blogging consistently, but I can pinpoint several techniques that made this big payday a reality.

How I got my digital-course-loving clients to say YES to a group program

  • I Got Crystal Clear About My Ideal Client
I published content for a specific type of client and made my followers feel like I was speaking directly to them.
  • I Focused On The Most Likely Buyers
Rather than emailing my massive subscriber list (more than 12,000 people at the time), I sent this one email to only 100 subscribers who already purchased 3 or more of my products. And I told them exactly that at the top of the email. They felt catered to, not lost in the crowd.
  • I Exceeded Their Expectations
I analyzed other mastermind groups and considered what would work for my Life Editors and what I could drop. I added retreats, group calls, a book club, accountability partners, and more.

Digital courses are fun, but you’ll always get better results with the support and specificity of a group program.

That one email changed my business forever and made me a better coach. If I could make it work for my business, then I knew these tactics would work for my clients’ businesses too.

Now I have a brand-new group program Goodbye 9-to-5 that teaches you how to earn a full-time income from your business so you can quit your day job or keep it for a double income.

Switching from digital courses to a group program is simple:

  1. Delete the distractions, fluff, and dead weight that don’t lead to money.
  2. Nail your high-ticket offer and high-value client profile and reach out with effective marketing strategies.
  3. Charge your current monthly revenue PER CLIENT! No sleazy sales tactics required.

If you’re a digital course creator, consider how you can serve your clients in a bigger way with a group program. They’ll get better results, and you’ll get better sales.

Thanks for reading this edition of the “That Won’t Work for Me” series.
