Many years ago when I was a book editor, I was insanely jealous of the woman who worked in the cubicle across from me.
She was more talented than me! She got promoted before me! She bought a house before me!
And worst of all, she was younger than me.
I felt like I was playing catch-up for most of my life, and this woman made me feel even further behind in every aspect of my life and career.
And how decrepit and elderly was I? Just 24 years old.
Thank goodness I eventually stopped feeling so insecure about my accomplishments and where I thought I should be in life.
One nugget of wisdom put things in perspective for me . . .
“You’ll never be as young as you are right now.”
What a truth bomb! Time will pass anyway, so you might as well go after what you want. What dreams or goals have you put on hold because you thought you had run out of time?
It’s never too late to:
- Start a business.
- Move someplace warm and sunny.
- Find true love.
- Save for retirement.
- Write a novel.
- Go bungee jumping or other bucket list adventure.
I challenge you to choose something to accomplish (big or small!) that you’ve pushed aside for silly reasons, and then take the first step.
You might start with doing some research, talking with a mentor or coach, or sending an email.
But the important thing is that you START.
