Link Roundup: Trust Your Instincts

Have you ever had a bad feeling about something but you weren’t sure why?

This week Chris and I brought Skyla to a new doggie day care center to check it out. We took a tour, spoke with the manager, and Skyla seemed to enjoy herself.

A few days later we returned to drop off Skyla for a full day, but she wasn’t having it. She sat down and wouldn’t budge. She wouldn’t go through the door to the big room with the rest of the dogs, and she started shaking uncontrollably.

Her instincts were telling her something, but what? Maybe she didn’t want to be in a strange place all day or maybe she sensed an aggressive dog.

Chris and I are very receptive of Skyla’s feelings, so she stayed home with me instead.

Now, I love working from home and having Skyla keep me company, but sometimes I need a break. There are times when my day looks less like a productive work day and more like “Skyla’s Fun Time Variety Show!”

I’m convinced she thinks Chris and I are her pets.

Anyhoo, we want to honor her feelings and let her know that she should trust her instincts. So if she doesn’t feel good about that day care center, then we don’t feel good about it either.

Do you trust your instincts? Have you ever second-guessed the way you were feeling?

While I spend the weekend cuddling my puppy dog, here are some tidbits for you to peruse at your leisure.

I agree with Molly, that’s a great photo of you and Skyla! I very much believe in trusting your instincts and your “gut” feelings, and I think it’s great that you trust Skyla’s instincts as well.

The links look so interesting, I’m especially excited to read the article on how to overcome excuses to wait on your dreams. I need that, lol! Everything else looks great and super useful too! Thanks for the roundup!

Thanks, Sarah! Skyla usually just wants to play instead of pose for pictures.

That’s a great picture of you & Skyla. 🙂 You’re awesome for not forcing her to go there when she didn’t want to. Dogs can tell us so much & not enough people listen to them, IMO.

I’ve learned to follow my instinct & have almost always regretted it when I don’t. It can be hard to do sometimes, but it’s definitely paid off to listen to your gut feeling!

Thanks, Molly! Skyla was a little squirmy but we finally got her to pose for us. We had been taking her to another day care center that she loved, but the last time she was there her eye was scratched and we weren’t called. We were trying to find a new day care, but this new place spooked her.

We had a meeting with the original day care and went over our concerns, so I think we might use them again as long as they know we want to be called if she gets hurt. It’s a weird situation because Skyla loves this place but we don’t want her to get hurt.

I’ve become more adept at trusting my instincts as I’ve gotten older. And my instincts are usually right!

I can’t believe that they didn’t tell you about her eye getting scratched. I’d be upset about that, too! Poor Skyla- ouch. 🙁 Hopefully everything will go well there now.
