Can’t You Feel the Brand New Day?
“What is this? Is this Disney?”
I was at my recent retreat with my Life Editor Academy ladies when our motivational music playlist switched to a song oozing with positivity and exuberance.
It was obviously a show tune from a musical, and maybe another coach would have been embarrassed by the hokey lyrics, but I’ve got a high threshold for silliness.
“No, it’s The Wiz!” I squealed. Then I proceeded to vogue around the living room singing the joyful song:
“Can’t you feel the BRAND NEW DAY!!!”
What can I say? My musical tastes are as upbeat as I am, and it makes me feel good to focus on the bright side of life.
The song, “Everybody Rejoice (Brand New Day),” is from the musical The Wiz, which is a retelling of the Wizard of Oz with an all black cast. I love The Wizard of Oz in all its formats including the original children’s book, the 1939 movie, the cartoons, Wicked, and more.
What I love most about the story is how Dorothy, Scarecrow, Tin Man, and the Lion are looking outside themselves for the things they want most in life: to go home, a brain, a heart, and courage.
They’re waiting for a wizard to save them and give them purpose.
It’s only after a series of adventures involving deadly flowers, beasts of every shape and size, and 2 wicked witches, does the group of friends realize they had everything they needed within themselves the entire time.
It’s just like life editing.
You can’t sit around waiting for the perfect job, a new relationship, a pile of money to drop out of the sky, to be noticed, to feel good in your own skin, or a hundred other things.
You have the power to make small edits daily to become the best version of yourself. No great and powerful wizard needed.
When you own your worth and say, “Yes! I can do this! I’m in control!” then you can begin editing the rough draft of your life.
It’s a brand new day! And I’ve got a course that will help you find your own yellow brick road.
