Question of the Week: What Makes You Lose Your Temper?
I don’t often lose my temper, which is probably a good thing considering I’m a Buddhist.
But there are certain things (er, people) that make me mad. I especially dislike haters who criticize what other people are doing but they never put themselves out there to be judged. I also have no tolerance for complainers and whiners.
When I feel myself getting mad, I usually need to step away from what I’m doing (or get off Facebook!), make myself a cup of tea, and sit quietly. Petting Skyla helps me calm down too.
What makes you lose your temper?
In the comments below, share something that makes you mad and what you do to let go of the anger.
I don’t usually lose my temper (lots of deep breathing happening instead) but every once in awhile I can’t keep it under control and it is usually for something incredibly petty directed toward John (like saying the “wrong” thing or being a clutter bug). Thankfully that is pretty rare but I still feel awful about 10 seconds later and apologize.
I feel bad when I lose my temper too. 🙁
I’m with Sarah on driving. I can feel my blood pressure rising when I see people toss trash (especially cigarette butts) out the window or if I see someone texting. Ditto with tailgating & all around reckless, thoughtless driving. It’s scary & infuriating at the same time!
I’m a lot better with reigning in my anger now (Mike has been a great influence on me for this). I usually try to breath & focus on something positive.
I’m a super short tempered person, so really LOTS of things make me lose my temper. When I do, I just get up, move to another room and just breathe for a second. Then, I’m fine 🙂
Good advice, Laura! Thanks for commenting. 🙂
Driving is the most certain way I’ll lose my temper. I have zero tolerance for stupidity on the road because it is deadly. I’ve had people make right turns from the left lane in front of me, people literally swerve into me… talking or texting while driving drives me crazy, tailgating (don’t even get me started when someone is doing both at the same time!). I just don’t understand how people can be so stupid and it is almost guaranteed that I’ll get angry if I see anything like this! The only thing I feel like I can do in the car is to just breathe and try to let it go… and try to get away from the dangerous driver. When I get to my destination I’m ok.
Bad drivers get to me too. I’m calmer when I’m the passenger and my husband is dealing with the crazy drivers.
