You’re Already “Good Enough”

Good Enough

When you look at your life, are you satisfied?

Are you happy with how things are going? Are you reaching your goals, achieving your dreams, and shooting for the stars?

Or are you stuck in the cycle of perfectionism, comparison, and frustration? Are you suffering from not-good-enough-itis? I heard that affliction can be deadly.

Does it seem like no matter how hard you try, you’re never quite satisfied?

If you’re using the Habit Transformer System, you might see some blank boxes where you weren’t able to do your good habit that day. Maybe you see many more blank boxes than checked off ones…

It’s all too easy to beat yourself up and think you’re a failure because you couldn’t do whatever you set out to do perfectly. Why did you even bother, right?

Well, you better CUT IT OUT right now! Being down on yourself isn’t productive and it’s not going to make the rest of your life any easier. Who said you have to be perfect anyway? (I bet it was this guy.)

But here’s the truth: you’re already “good enough.” Right as you are now.

You will always face challenges, obstacles, and setbacks—that’s life! But getting caught up in needing to do everything perfectly won’t help you.

It’s time to give up on perfection and focus on being “good enough.”

Ways You’re “Good Enough”

  • Maybe you exercised only twice this week. That’s better than nothing!
  • Maybe you only think about meditating when you have a really bad day. It’s still beneficial no matter how often you do it.
  • Maybe you couldn’t find more than a couple things to be grateful for today. Well, be grateful that you thought about gratitude at all.
  • Maybe nothing you do is right and everything is exploding around you like some bad action movie. How about choosing to start again? Being “good enough” means you have unlimited tries (unlike Super Mario).

Decide for yourself when a task, project, or other thing in your life really requires perfection…and when a good enough job would be fine.

I’ll bet you’ll still get things done and meet your goals. And you might save your sanity while you’re at it.

So give yourself a break today and focus on “good enough.”

You made excellent points. When I was younger I used to beat myself up for not always being able to have everything perfect. Now that I am older and wiser (LOL) I realize that so many things are out of my control and everything can’t be perfect. I focus on the things that I can control and am so much happier 🙂 Heather

My nature is to want everything to be perfect, but that’s impossible. I now purposefully choose to to do a “good enough” job on certain things. And “good enough” is completely different than “half-assed.” Doing our best doesn’t mean being perfect.

And I’m happier now that I’m older too! 🙂

You are always so right. The quest for perfection drives many of us crazy. We should accept the levels we reach that are short of it but very accomplished on their own.

I’m already crazy so there’s no point in me struggling with perfectionism. 🙂
