The Sweet Life: Interview With Alane Pearce From MyPublishingCoach.com (and Freebie!)

This is a post in The Sweet Life interview series where I interview an inspirational woman who has made her life sweet. Please say hello to Alane Pearce!

Welcome! Please introduce yourself and your business.

Hi! I’m Alane Pearce, Publishing Coach and author. I help make self-publishing easier for writers who want to become successful, best-selling authors. I work with authors both individually or online through MyPublishingCoach.com where you can get tons of information about writing for publishing. You can also join The Publishing Club where you will receive step-by-step instruction on how to self-publish your book.

How do you help women make their lives sweet?

I am an encourager and I love to hear women’s stories of hope and survival. Those stories help other women feel less alone, or help them get through their own challenges. When I help women get their stories published, it makes their lives sweet because they are helping others…it makes my life sweet because I’m doing what I’m designed to do…and it makes the lives of other women sweet because they find the hope and encouragement they need to persevere. All around it is a sweet deal!

What led you to start your business?

My business was a happy circumstance that came to pass after a thought I had that coaching authors would be my dream job. I was working on a vision board with a friend because we were tired of being victims of our circumstances and we wanted to be more than we were.

We were discussing what we’d love to do if time and money weren’t an issue. I thought about how much I had to learn on my own when I published my book, and I decided, “It would be so cool, one day, to be an author coach and help others publish their own books.” I put it on my vision board but continued reacting to my life and my circumstances.

About four months later, a friend from high school called because he saw I published my book and was wondering if I could help him do the same. That very same week a colleague called and asked if I could help her publish her book of poems (but she didn’t know I had been published—she just had a feeling I could help).

So my business started itself and has grown each year. I’ve helped many authors get their books finished and published and sold! I can’t imagine another kind of job that is filled with so much joy and fulfillment.

What does an average day look like for you?

I am not a morning person, so my day starts a little late…after a cup of coffee, some quiet time, and some exercise. I really don’t have an “average” day—which is something I love about what I do.

Depending on how many authors I’m working with, I will either spend late morning coaching my authors/clients on the phone or writing blog posts for MyPublishingCoach.com. I am also developing some books and programs to help writers walk themselves through the publishing and promotion process, so if I’m not writing blogs I am working on those. Or I am laying out books, designing covers, or editing manuscripts.

I try to keep updated on what is happening in the publishing industry and each week I try to learn something new to make my business better and find a way to implement what I’ve learned.

Sometimes my day ends at 3:00 when my son comes home from school and I put on my “mom hat.” Other days I find I have so many ideas that I just can’t stop what I’m doing because it is so much fun!

What makes your life sweet?

Working for myself makes my life sweet! I am home and available for friends when they need help, and for my son when he comes home from school. I get to work with people who are passionate about what they do and I get to see them become successful when they do what I coach them to do. What could be sweeter than that!?
