The Sweet Life: Interview With Lori Logan Vance From A Positive Curl

This is a post in The Sweet Life interview series where I interview an inspirational woman who has made her life sweet. Please say hello to Lori Logan Vance!

Welcome! Please introduce yourself and your blog.

Hello! My name is Lori Logan Vance. I’m the wife of an amazing husband, Jason, and the mom of a super 4-year-old boy, William. I’m a business woman by day and a blogger by night. I blog over at A Positive Curl where I have the opportunity to encourage women around the world to celebrate the kinks in life.

How do you help women make their lives sweet?

I help women make their lives sweet by encouraging them to see their “kinks”—those things about ourselves that we don’t like or wish we could change—in a positive light. We all have kinks in our life, whether it’s our hair, our body shape, our height, or the freckles on our face. Whatever those kinks may be, it’s tempting to want to hide them or be ashamed of them, but I encourage women to embrace and celebrate their kinks.

What led you to start your blog?

I spent many years of my life hating my naturally curly hair. I did everything I could to hide my curls, but one day, I got tired of hiding them. I realized that it was time to stop fighting my curls and begin to accept and embrace them.

With a lot of patience and a lot of prayer, I finally learned to love my naturally curly hair. Now, I celebrate my hair by wearing it big and curly with a bold freedom. This experience of learning to love my curls became my story, my personal testimony, and the inspiration behind my blog.

What does an average day look like for you?

My day starts when my alarm goes off at 5:00 am. I am actually a night owl, so waking up early is challenging at times, but I still make an effort to get up early so that I can have time to read the Bible, meditate on scripture, and pray. (It always amazes me how this quiet time can make such a huge difference in my day.) Then it’s time to wake up my son, get him ready for school, and then I get ready for work. My husband usually wakes up around this time to prepare our lunches for the day, which I am incredibly thankful for!

As soon as the work day is over, I pick up my son from day care, and we make the long yet entertaining drive home. Once we arrive at the house, we have a few minutes to unwind and relax, and then it’s time to prepare for dinner. My husband is the head chef in our house (another thing I’m incredibly thankful for!) so while he’s cooking, I help with the cleaning up and setting up the table.

After dinner, it’s bath and bed time for my son. Then, my husband and I have a little time for ourselves to either watch a TV show or talk about our day. Around 10:00 pm (if I haven’t already fallen asleep on the couch), I get out my iPad to write, check social media, plan out my blog posts for the next few days, and catch up on my favorite blogs. And then it’s bath and bed time for me. I usually spend about 20 minutes reading a book before it’s lights out and sweet dreams.

What makes your life sweet?

The things that make my life sweet include going on hikes with my husband, taking my son to the zoo, watching the sun set, dancing around the living room, and laughing out loud. I absolutely love to laugh. I believe that laughter helps to make life sweet because it gives you a chance to see things in the most positive way. Thankfully, my husband and son are the 2 funniest people I know, so they keep me laughing all of the time.

Where can we find you?

Thank you so much for sharing what makes your life sweet, Lori!
