Be Good to Yourself For No Reason

Today is the official first day of fall (not like all those other days that felt like fall but really weren’t…stinkin’ fakey fall days).

Fall is my favorite season. I love the chill in the air, the new school year, warm sweaters, changing leaves, and the start of the “Merry Hallothanksmas” holiday season. But, alas, no PSLs for me.

A few days ago, Chris came home from work with flowers for me for no reason at all. It was such a sweet gesture. Here they are:

Such pretty fall colors! I put a few blooms in a small cup on my desk too. It really made a difference in my levels of work stress. Just seeing them next to my mug of pens made me pause and reflect about the good things in my life.

I really appreciate it when Chris goes out of his way to do something nice for me (and he does it often). Sometimes it’s too easy to get caught up in work, chores, relationships, and all the other daily distractions. It got me thinking about ways to be good to myself without waiting for a reason to appear.

These are a few of my favorite ways to be good to myself:

  • Sing real loud and dance around like I’m Lady Gaga. I usually only do this in the privacy of my own home because I don’t want to make people jealous of my booty-shaking moves.
  • Watch a trashy TV show rather than read something intellectual. Sorry, War and Peace, but Millionaire Matchmaker is on!
  • Put on my pajamas way before bedtime. Hey, it’s 4:30 in the afternoon–see ya later, bra!

Now, I don’t do these things everyday (I gotta get some work done too, you know), but it’s nice to give myself permission to be good to myself. We could all use a break!

What will you do to be good to yourself for no particular reason this weekend?
