My Monthly Edit: January 2015

OK, so I’m a little late with My Monthly Edit for January, but in my defense, I did just wrap up a 5-day road trip across the country.

This is a series of posts where I share what I’m editing in my life and business. It’s like a behind-the-scenes peek at what I’m doing without you hiding in my closet spying on me like a deranged serial killer.

Because that would be awkward.

My Gratitude Foundation

Moving to a new home will certainly make you appreciate the blessings you already have. I’m forever grateful for Chris and Skyla, who kept me sane when I felt like I was losing my mind from being stuck in the car for so many hours every day. Singing loudly to cheesy 90s hip hop songs helped too.

I’m incredibly thankful for my coaching business and for having the ability to work anywhere in the world. This freedom is what allowed us to pick up our lives and move for Chris’s new job. And by the way, big thanks to Chris’s new company for paying for most of the moving expenses!

What I Deleted

I deleted so much clutter and junk when we moved! This was our 5th move in 3.5 years (yes, really), so we’ve become accustomed to weeding through our belongings regularly. You can do this too—walk around your home and imagine you’re moving. When you come to a piece of furniture, pile of clothes, or other item, ask yourself “Would I be willing to move this thing across the country?”

I also trimmed down my February VIP Days to only 2 instead of 5 because I want to take some time for myself to feel settled and unrushed (UPDATE: Now there’s only one left. Click here to grab your spot.).

That’s the great thing about working for myself: I don’t need to fill every minute of my schedule unless I want to.

What I Added

Well, for one, we now call Orlando, Florida, our new home. That’s a biggie! We thought we’d found the perfect house, but we’re actually still looking for just the right one.

In January, we flew out here to try to find a house in a single day. Unsurprisingly, that turned out to be a recipe for making mistakes and missing problems (eg, broken furnace, non-stop beeping from the security system, etc.).

As I’ve grown older, I’m less likely to muddle through a less-than-ideal situation…like the not-so-fab house that we originally liked. Giving myself permission to take my time to find just the right house has been liberating. We’ll get there.

What I Rearranged

Admittedly, I was little apprehensive about what a 3-hour time change would do to my client call schedule. Would I need to rearrange everyone’s spots…or would I feel pressured to take calls at odd hours?

Thankfully, my new schedule is freakin’ awesome!

All my client calls start at 12:00 noon or later, and that gives me oodles of time in the morning for my genius work. I’m more focused and energized in the morning (early bird all the way!), so it’s much more fun to write my blog posts then and save my calls until after lunch.

Another adjustment I made to my call schedule was to open up 2 “late nights” for clients every week. Now folks who have day jobs or other responsibilities can still meet with me after work or after the kids are in bed.

When was the last time you edited your daily or weekly schedule? Are you handling your most important priorities during your most focused times?

My White Space

My white space sorta disappeared in January, but that’s OK. I needed to get ready for the move and get my business prepared for the unexpected, such as lack of internet on the road or feeling too exhausted to check my email.

However, now that we’re scouting for a new house, I’ve added “big fancy bathtub” to my list of must-haves. I adore taking long perfumy baths, and that’s going to be a part of my regular routine once we’re settled.

I’ve also been reading The Happiness Project again during the move (one of my faves!), and it makes me want to nest and be loving to my family, my business, and myself. I’m living a life of imperfect action right now.

That’s My Monthly Edit for January! Thanks for being a part of it.

PS, next week I’m releasing my annual Birthday Bundle Blowout Sale. What goodies will be included? You’ll just have to wait and see! 🙂

Sage! I am so happy for you! And what a testimony to all you teach that your dream of moving became possible because of all the hard work you have put into your business!
