Link Roundup: April 27, 2013

Chris and I have been adding more family time into our schedules including weekly dates and looking for opportunities to be a part of the community.

We recently went to a fundraiser for a new park, and the event was held in the weirdest place called Sparky’s Hot Rod Garage.

It was a warehouse full of classic cars, motorcycles, and 1950s diner recreations.

And a whole bunch of weird crap on the walls. Everywhere we looked there was some crazy mannequin, neon sign, or vintage pinball machine.

Oh, and this.

Here’s a shot of Chris with his new friend.

You may be wondering why Chris is wearing a fake mustache. Well, entertainment for the fundraiser was provided by the unforgettable Mustache Harbor.

This band totally rocked! All the members dressed up in yachting outfits, and they played cheesy rock and dance music from the 70s and 80s. And of course they all had mustaches.

It was so much fun to go out and spend the night dancing and laughing with Chris. We first met back in college when we danced together in a bar.

This week we went to a showing of Star Trek: The Next Generation at our local movie theater. We’re both nerdy and into sci-fi stuff (here’s us at a comic book convention), and we both love Star Trek.

This was a showing of “The Best of Both Worlds,” the 2 episodes where Captain Picard is abducted by the Borg. I managed to snap this pic of Data before Chris yelled at me to put away my camera.

What do you like to do for fun? Do you plan date nights?

Do you attend fundraisers and other community events?

While I spend the weekend working on my next big top-secret project, here are some tidbits for you to peruse at your leisure.

Don’t ask me what’s up with the cat videos. It’s been that kind of week. Oh, and thank you so much to April and Lori for featuring me on their websites!

It was SO cool! You would have loved it. There were also life-size statues of the Blues Brothers and Marilyn Monroe. I loved all the cheesiness. 🙂

Sage, I LOVE LOVE LOVE this post! What a fun place you guys found! It’s really sweet that you guys make time for each other and still go on dates. It looks like you had a blast, definitely a very cool find!

I’m not really into comics or sci fi too much but I do love the show Comic Book Men on AMC. I’m a huge Kevin Smith fan and the guys are so funny and inappropriate 🙂 i’m a big fan of the podcast it is based on so I guess that’s how I got into it 🙂

Thanks for the links! Looks like a really great bunch, can’t wait to peruse them! Also can’t wait to see what fun things you are working on!

WOW, Sage, this entire post is totally up my alley! Mike and I would love to go to Sparky’s and the Star Trek showing. That’s our kind of time! Even the band sounds awesome.

We always try to plan something each weekend, even if it’s just going out for brunch. We’re not big on gatherings where there are a lot of people, but love to go to stuff like open mic nights.

Mustache Harbor is so freakin’ awesome! I’m thinking of becoming one of their groupies and following them around to all their gigs. 🙂 I didn’t know you liked Star Trek. Are you excited about the new movie?

Yes I am! I was never a huge Star Trek fan, but we both watched the original show quite a bit when we were younger. I miss seeing it on TV!
