A Letter From My 75-Year-Old Self

Today, I’m sharing wisdom from a very wise chick—my future self.

What advice would your future self share with you? What would she say about the obstacles you’re facing right now?

I’m participating in Amber Krzys’s Rock Your Body Challenge, and the challenge this week is to write a letter to yourself from your 75-year-old self, and I’m doing it in video form.

This isn’t the first time I’ve heard from future Sage, but now she’s sharing advice about my weight, business, and marriage.

Watch out, I got a little weepy at the end of this video.

If your 75-year-old self wrote you a letter, what would she say?

In the comments below, share the words of wisdom from your future self.

I love this Sage! What a great idea. There are so many things I want to repeat but I couldn’t type fast enough and watch the video at the same time! “Your free stuff is changing lives.” “You weight will always fluctuate.” Pretty much every word you said I felt like you were saying to me and I am sure my own 75 year old self would also say. This is truly inspiring and I may need to write one myself. Thank you for your transparency. But also thank you for giving to this community who so badly wants a full life as well. When we look back it will not be how much money we made but the lives we changed. And that is so powerful.

This is such a powerful video Sage! I’ve never thought of my future self giving advice to my current self. I have definitely felt like I need to give advice to my past self at times though! I think my 75 year old self would tell me to just relax and enjoy the ride – which is definitely advice I’d give my past self even now. It’s so hard to live life that way but I think it’s important!

Yes! I wouldn’t want a 100% perfect life–I have a feeling that it might be rather boring, and you wouldn’t learn very much along the way, either!

Oh man. What a great question! I’ll have to think about this. My future self would probably just tell me to stop being such a worry wart!

Haha! Yes, I think most of us will realize we spent too much time worrying.

Wow Sage, what a beautiful, powerful video. Like Molly, I found myself getting emotional by the end of it as well. Such beautiful advice from your 75 year old self. I can definitely identify with weight issues. I think my 75 year old self would first and foremost tell me to take it easy on myself. I’m unnecessarily harsh on myself for no reason at all. She’d tell me that just because I don’t know what I want right now doesn’t make me a failure and that learning to appreciate the things the I’m good at will help me find my path in life. She’d tell me that I’m here for a reason and that one day it will become crystal clear to me what I’m supposed to be doing.

Thanks, Sarah. I’m becoming so sentimental and weepy in my old age. 🙂 I know our 75-year-old selves would tell us to chill out, stop worrying, and enjoy the ride. Because isn’t that what our current selves would tell our 10-year-old selves? Everything works out in the end. We just gotta trust the process.

Hello Sage! You have such a wonderful and inspiring blog! I loved this video, like the comment above mine, I loved the “If you’re still blogging” hehehe 🙂

    • Sage Grayson on November 16, 2013 at 9:29 am

Hi Sara! Thanks for commenting. Wouldn’t that be funny if we’re still blogging at 75? 🙂

My 75 year old self would say, “You’re still blogging?” haha

    Cheers!

Wow, Sage, your video made me teary eyed! It was so beautiful and everything your 75 year old self said is absolutely true. I’m with you on the weight issue and Mike & I have certainly had our marriage tested throughout the years.

I’ve gotten into the habit of making myself think about if what I’m fretting about at the time is something that will matter in a year. While that’s much a much closer future than when I’ll be 75, it’s the same concept and works so well. It really helps to put things into perspective.

    • Sage Grayson on November 15, 2013 at 8:19 pm

Thanks for the kind words, Molly. I didn’t think I was going to get emotional, but then I did.

Thinking about whether something will matter in a year is perfect. I can’t imagine any of my current problems mattering in a year. Hmm…it really gets you thinking about the big picture and how much time we waste worrying.
