Hydrate Yo’ Self

Hydrate Yo' Self

Most people wake up grumpy in the morning. Do you?

Sure, you might have several good reasons as to why you’re tired: your spouse hogged the bed, you went to bed too late, the dog’s barking kept you up.

Or maybe it’s just too damn early! Seriously, it’s still dark out.

But I’ve found a trick that will instantly flip your mood, wake up your senses, and get your body moving.

Drink 16 ounces (2 cups) of water within 30 minutes of waking.

You’re dehydrated first thing in the morning, and it’s been many, many hours since you’ve had something to drink.

Our bodies rely on water to perform all of its functions. We think clearer, have more energy, and look healthier when we’re properly hydrated.

I’m amazed by how many people don’t drink water in the morning. They may not drink anything until hours later when they’re hard at work. Why? I just don’t get it.

If you wait to drink water until after you’ve begun your day, you’re doing yourself, your family, and your clients a disservice.

For those of you who aren’t used to drinking water first thing in the morning, take it slow and sip your 16 ounces over the course of a half hour.

Drinking water early in the morning has the added benefit of getting your digestive system up and running so you can properly relieve yourself before starting your day. Was that TMI? Too bad—it’s true!

And sorry to disappoint you, but coffee, soda, juice, or any other liquid doesn’t count. You’re an adult now—no whining!

Need more help? Get yourself a cute water bottle or cup. I use this Camelbak bottle, and Tervis has some of the coolest designs for their tumblers that I’ve ever seen.

So this morning, make sure to grab some good ol’ H2O!

  1. I drink a lot of water throughout the day but haven’t gotten into the habit of drinking it first thing in the morning. I really need to start that, I know it’s so good for you.

I’m trying to drink water and coffee in the mornings, instead of just coffee. It is amazing how good it feels!

  3. I’ve been making it a goal of mine to do this every morning. While I can’t say I’m at 16 oz. yet, I do gulp down at least half of that and then have a bunch of herbal tea right after. It’s making a huge difference in how I feel! I used to drink pretty much just coffee until noon for quite a while….. :o
