Happier at Home Book Review (Video)

One of my all-time favorite self-empowerment books is Gretchen Rubin’s The Happiness Project. Based on her popular blog, The Happiness Project follows one woman’s quest for happiness without winning the lottery or moving to an ashram in India.

And of course, she finds that it IS possible to be happier right where you are now.

I was super excited to review her sequel, Happier at Home, where Gretchen undergoes another happiness project; this one focusing on her home life.

I loved the video! As you know, I use a Kindle now, but when I read books I always removed the jacket because I just don’t like them. I’ve always been a bookworm & books make me extremely happy. There’s nothing better than curling up on the couch by the fireplace with a book, usually with Emma & Rowan snuggled near me.

I’ll have to check out those candles. I have a few favorite scents- lilacs & burning grass (not the marijuana kind, although that doesn’t smell bad, either… 🙂 ). Candles by Phebes makes a fantastic lilac candle, but so far I haven’t found a burning grass scent. I have a feeling that doesn’t exist. heh 🙂

What a cool bookmark that Gretchen sent you! It reminds me of scratch & sniff stickers, which I was extremely fond of when I was a kid. I still have my sticker album, which I’ll drag out from time to time so that I can sniff the stickers. Fond memories!

The Happiness Project is on my to read list and I currently am waiting for it to become available through the library. I’m looking forward to reading it! Once I’ve read it, I’ll read Happier at Home. I love these types of books!

Phew! That was a lonnnng comment!

I used to love scratch and sniff stickers, so getting that bookmark was pretty cool. I had a dozen sticker books when I was a kid–so fun! I like a lot of nature smells…things that smell fresh and not too sweet.

I know the feeling of being on the wait list forever at the library, but I’d rather “try before I buy” than purchase a book and not like it. The only time I’ll buy a book without getting it from the library first is if it’s an author I love like Gretchen Rubin, AJ Jacobs, or Geneen Roth. Who are your favorite authors?

Oh boy, that’s a loaded question! Well, one of my absolute favorites is Chuck Palahniuk, but I also love Stephen King, Dean Koontz & several others. 🙂

Great video and review Sage! I’m so excited to read this book! I’m planning on reading a lot of the Happiness Project on the plane and on vacation so I should be able to start Happier at Home soon! You’ve made me so excited to read it, thank you so much for my copy! I also love the idea of having your favorite smell around. I think it makes perfect sense. Is it weird that I didn’t realize iced tea had a smell? I totally am going to smell it the next time I drink it 🙂 I think my favorite scent would be something spicy or fall related. 🙂

I definitely want to work on being happier with work…and drastic things need to happen to be happier at work. I was also speaking with a friend today and came to realize that I need to work on bringing back the girl I was before I started this job. I used to be more care free, more adventurous, more confident and all around happier. My goal is to strive to bring all of these qualities back and become the woman that I am meant to be.

Thanks again!! Loving the videos, you are so cute!

Oh and PS, I LOVE your necklace! SO pretty!

Thanks! It’s from my favorite jewelry designer, Angela Moore. She does hand-painted beaded necklaces and bracelets: angelamoore.com

Tea DOES have a smell, but it’s really light and kinda “woodsy”. Chris tried black tea once and he said it tasted like leaves. I really like the “earthiness” of it.

I’m so glad you’re working on your own happiness journey. I re-evaluate my happiness and goals every few months to make sure I’m still being authentic. I’d love to see a more confident, happier Sarah! 🙂
