26 Random Things About Me

26 Random Things About Me

I was talking with one of my clients during her Ready, Set, Go! call this week, and she told me she spent more than 30 minutes cruising around my website trying to find out more about me.

Hmmm. I think that’s my cue to update my About page!

I like reading other people’s About pages so I can get a feel for the person behind the posts. Short and sweet summaries with bullet points are a good way to go, and pictures are a plus.

With that in mind, I redid my About page to be more enticing and a “one-stop shop” to get the scoop on who I am, my experiences, and what I have to offer.

Click here to check out my new About page.

I also included a list of 26 Random Things About Me, which I’ve added below. Enjoy!

26 Random Things About Me

  1. My birthday is February 16 (hint, hint). That makes me an Aquarius. This description of the Aquarius personality makes me seem like a super genius, so of course I love it.
  2. I’ve been a vegetarian since 1995 and a vegan since 2010. My favorite food is tofu, followed closely by broccoli. For reals.
  3. I’m 5’0’’. Yes, I’m short, but my legs are longer than my husband’s legs (he’s 5’8’’). I’m like a spider with a tiny torso and freakishly long limbs.
  4. I listen to a lot of uplifting “bubblegum” pop music. I believe that what you listen to has a profound effect on your mood and what you attract in your life.
  5. I have zero patience for whiners (see #4).
  6. Sage Grayson Coaching was originally a fashion blog called Sweet and Sage. I kept the “sweetness” in my tagline and my weekly ezine, The Sweet List.
  7. I attempted suicide when I was 15.
  8. After years of abuse, I cut ties with my entire biological family when I was 23.
  9. I lived in Chicago for most of my life, and spent 4 years in Richmond, VA. I’ve lived in San Francisco since 2011.
  10. I love to dance. I take hip hop aerobics at my gym and sometimes Zumba (but Zumba music annoys the crap out of me).
  11. I’m bisexual, and I dated men and women before I married my husband.
  12. I spent nearly 10 years in the corporate world as an editor for various healthcare publishers. My grammar becomes more loosy-goosy every year I’m away from the publishing world.
  13. I’m a Buddhist Atheist.
  14. My biggest fear is being eaten by bears. Don’t laugh; it could happen.
  15. I was an obese child. As an adult, I lost 30 pounds with Weight Watchers and became one of their group leaders.
  16. My favorite color is emerald green.
  17. I was a nude model.
  18. My fingers are also exceptionally long for my size (see #3), and I’m able to bend and twist them into various shapes, most notably, a talking frog.
  19. I have 32 magazine subscriptions. Trees and postal workers hate me.
  20. My favorite movie is Metropolis, followed closely by Lilo and Stitch and Pride and Prejudice.
  21. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education. Sadly, this doesn’t make it any easier for me to go to the gym.
  22. I’ve experienced vicious bullying (see #7, #11, #13, and #15).
  23. I love to travel, and I think there’s no such thing as too many vacations.
  24. I’ve been to Walt Disney World 21 times, and I’ve spent more than 6 months of my life in the Disney parks.
  25. My favorite book is Eat Pray Love, and I listen to the audiobook once a year. My favorite children’s book is The Phantom Tollbooth. I also read tons of self-help books.
  26. My lucky number is 26.

Your about me page is awesome, Sage! I adore lists like these and love when people put a great About Me page on their blog. It’s always disappointing to not be able to find one.

Funny, I just assumed your degree was in media communications or something similar since you were in the publishing industry.

Someday you, Sarah and I must get together if only to make me feel tall (I’m 5’4″)! 🙂

I’m very glad your suicide attempt wasn’t successful. I had a few highly traumatic things happen to me when I was younger and was self destructive at that age, as well. While I never attempted suicide, I did hurt myself a lot (and still have some faint scars as a reminder). Just goes to show how much better things can get when you look at how happy we both are now. 🙂

Thanks, Molly. I was going through a really horrible time in my life when I attempted suicide, and I hope to write about it on my blog someday. It made me realize that everything in life is fixable.

You would seem tall to me in person! I do like being short, but strangely, people sometimes pat me on the head like I’m still a little kid.

I love your new about me page! I also love that you included some random facts about you. I didn’t know a lot of these and it’s really nice to be able to learn more about you. I had no idea you have a Bachelor’s Degree in Phys Ed! You are an incredibly strong woman and continue to inspire me every day. In fact, as I’m home sick today, I’m going to update my About Me page with new random facts about myself!

Sorry you’re home sick. Feel better and take care of yourself! I like lists of random facts because you get a fun overview of the person’s life without them having to go into a lengthy description of each item. Let me know when you update your About page!

Most people are surprised that I have a Phys Ed degree. I used to teach aerobics and yoga in college (a million years ago). I have a minor in Journalism because I knew I wanted to get into healthcare publishing. That was great for a while, but I enjoy being able to help women more directly now.

Thanks, I’m definitely trying to take care of myself and stop this before it gets full blown. I completely agree with you about random fact lists. I’m a huge fan of them… probably because I’m so nosy haha! I’m working on it now, should hopefully be up soon!

That’s so cool that you taught aerobics and yoga!! I wanted to get certified to be a yoga instructor for a while. I think that you’ve found your path for sure. You’ve been doing amazing work and have touched a lot of people’s lives. It’s taking me a while but I know I’ll figure out what I’m meant to do eventually.

I’m also sorry to hear you’re sick, Sarah. Feel better soon!!
